Morepork

On the 24th Feb, Mrs Sutherland went outside during staff meeting after two children cam and said there was an owl outside. Surprisingly there was a Morepork sitting on the top office window.  One fact we learnt is that the owls can turn their head 180 degrees. See our photos.

Look at the huge strong claws

It sat very happily there while all the children and parents watched it. We ran DOC because this was not normal behaviour for an owl to be awake during the day.

This is the Morepork with its head turned around looking in the office window

The Doc Ranger came and caught it after it flew to the next-door neighbours. It had a broken beak probably from flying into the window.
